Candid Wedding Photography at Art of Living, Bangalore
Published by The Wedding Fellas · Bangalore's Candid Wedding Photographers
There is something about the Art of Living International Centre that no other wedding venue in Bangalore can replicate.
The moment you drive through those gates on Kanakapura Road, the city disappears. The air changes. The pace slows. And the weddings that happen inside that campus carry a quality of stillness, a genuine and unhurried sacredness, that you simply do not find at a banquet hall or a five-star hotel.
We have photographed dozens of weddings at the Art of Living ashram over the years. It remains one of our favourite places to work. This is why.
Why Couples Choose the Art of Living for Their Wedding
The Art of Living International Centre, spread across 65 acres on the banks of the Panchagavya river on Kanakapura Road, is one of the most spiritually significant venues in South India. Founded by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the ashram draws families who are deeply rooted in the Sudarshana Kriya tradition and the values of simplicity, presence, and devotion.
For many couples and families who are long-time followers of the Art of Living, there is simply no other choice of venue. The wedding is not just a social event. It is a spiritual milestone. The rituals are performed with full intention. The pandit knows the family. The elders in the audience are not checking their phones. Everyone in that mandap is genuinely, completely present.
That kind of presence, as wedding photographers, is a gift
What Makes Shooting Here Different
Most wedding venues in Bangalore give you a lot to work with visually: elaborate stage designs, floral installations, dramatic lighting rigs. The Art of Living gives you something rarer: authenticity.
The architecture of the ashram, including the iconic amphitheatre, the meditation halls, the lush greenery, and the open corridors and gardens, creates a natural canvas that is both serene and breathtaking. Golden hour here hits differently. The light falls through the trees in long shafts. The backgrounds are clean. The colours are warm.
But more than the aesthetics, what makes the Art of Living special for candid wedding photography is the emotional depth of the people in the room.
Followers of Sri Sri are, broadly, people who have done significant inner work. They are present. They feel things deeply and without performance. When they cry at a wedding, it is real. When they laugh, it reaches their eyes. We have captured some of the most quietly powerful moments of our entire career at this venue. A grandmother closing her eyes during the Saptapadi. A father pressing his forehead to his son's during a private moment between ceremonies. A group of ashram residents doing a spontaneous round of bhajans after the reception.
You cannot stage those moments. You can only be ready for them.
We Follow the Ashram
This matters, and we want to say it clearly.
The Art of Living is not just a venue to us. We respect it as a spiritual space.
When we photograph weddings here, we follow the ashram's guidelines without exception:
Dress code. Our entire team dresses modestly and appropriately for the ashram environment. No loud colours, no casual wear. We arrive dressed the way you would dress to visit a place of worship.
Silence in sacred spaces. During meditations, Satsangs, and moments of prayer, we put the cameras down. We do not direct, we do not interrupt, and we do not ask anyone to move or pose during a ritual. We observe. We wait. And when the moment arrives, we are ready.
No flash in the mandap. We shoot the ceremony entirely in natural light and use silent shutter mode. The beep of a camera in the middle of a mantra has no place at a sacred wedding. Our team knows this and prepares accordingly.
Vegetarian, sattvic presence. We do not bring non-vegetarian food onto the ashram campus. We eat what the ashram provides. This is a small thing, but it is the right thing.
We ask before we photograph elders and spiritual leaders. If a respected teacher or senior ashram resident is present, we always take permission before pointing a lens at them. This is simple respect.
Over the years, this approach has meant that families and the ashram staff are genuinely comfortable with us. We blend in. And that is when the real photographs happen.
The Light at Art of Living
Any photographer who has shot at the Art of Living campus will tell you the same thing: the morning light here is extraordinary.
Most Art of Living weddings begin early. The Muhurtham is often at sunrise or shortly after. The soft golden light of a Kanakapura Road morning, filtering through the old trees on the ashram campus, creates a photographic environment that is almost impossible to replicate artificially.
We always arrive before the first ceremony begins, typically 90 minutes early, to walk the campus, identify the best natural light positions for each ritual, and ensure we are in place when the family arrives. Nothing about our work here is improvised on the day.
The late afternoon, and the period just after sunset known as the blue hour, is equally remarkable for couple portraits. The ashram gardens, the walking paths near the meditation hall, and the open areas near the amphitheatre all come alive in this light.
If you are getting married at Art of Living and have any flexibility in your couple portrait timing, we will always recommend just after the main ceremony, around 5 to 6 PM. The results speak for themselves.the moment. We capture the essence of your love with sophistication, ensuring your memories never fade
